FEMA makes Irene recovery money available

WASHINGTON — The Federal Emergency Management Agency says federal aid has been made available for the state of Maryland for Hurricane Irene recovery efforts.

FEMA announced Friday that federal aid will supplement state and local recovery efforts for areas affected during the period of Aug. 24 to Sept. 5.

The aid applies to Calvert, Caroline, Cecil, Dorchester, Harford, Kent, Queen Anne’s Somerset, St. Mary’s, Talbot, Wicomico and Worcester counties.

Regis Leo Phelan has been named federal coordinating officer for federal recover operations in the affected area. Phelan says additional designations may be made at a later date if requested by the state and warranted by the results of further damage assessments.
