An attorney says state Sen. Ulysses Currie won’t testify in his own defense in a federal corruption trial.
The Washington Post reports Currie’s attorney made the announcement Tuesday in federal court in Baltimore.
The Democrat from Prince George’s County is charged with using his position to benefit a supermarket chain that paid him hundreds of thousands of dollars as a consultant. The trial of the 74-year-old senator is now in its fifth week.
Also on Tuesday a doctor treating Currie for prostate cancer testified that a drug he was being injected with has side effects that include forgetfulness and loss of reasoning ability. Urologist Michael Naslund testified that Currie seemed “fuzzy” during some visits, including at least one that predated his injection with the drug Lupron.

Oh yeah, likely story. This disgraced senator had everyone (including the Lieutenant Governor) testify on his behalf. If he was truly innocent, the senator would take the stand. What is the senator afraid of? Perhaps an aggressive prosecutor grilling him on the stand. Yeah, yeah, I know about the 5th amendment. Why go through all that trouble and not testify?
I guess, since Currie is too stupid to understand that he is on trial, he is too dumb to testify!
