WHEATON — Montgomery County police say a man was kidnapped and possibly forced to withdraw money from ATMs, the third such incident in less than a week.
Police say they believe the same assailant is responsible for the kidnappings, all of which began at the Westfield Wheaton shopping center.
Authorities say a 77-year-old man was accosted by a man with a box cutter on Sunday afternoon, and was ordered into his own car and driven to bank machines. Police say the victim was cut and beaten during the kidnapping. After the assailant fled, passersby noticed the victim in the passenger seat of his car in Hyattsville and called police.
On Saturday, a 60-year-old man was accosted at the shopping center. On Wednesday, a 75-year-old man was the victim in a similar incident.
