W.Va. man pleads guilty to murder of Md. woman

HAGERSTOWN — A West Virginia man has pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the shooting of his former girlfriend at her Hagerstown home in June.

The Herald-Mail newspaper reports that 44-year-old Randy McPeak entered the plea Monday in Hagerstown.

McPeak, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., also pleaded guilty to a handgun violation, stalking, false imprisonment and violating a peace order in the fatal shooting of Heather Harris.

Prosecutors say they will seek the maximum penalty of life in prison without parole. No sentencing date was set.

Harris died five days after the former Washington County utilities construction supervisor shot her in the head. He told police she shot herself.

Prosecutors say McPeak called Harris at least 15 times and sent her eight text messages on the day he killed her.
