Anne Arundel lawmaker gets 5 months on tax charge

An Anne Arundel County councilman who pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to file a tax return has been sentenced to five months in prison.

Prosecutors say 47-year-old Daryl D. Jones was sentenced on Monday. The five months in prison will be followed by six months of home detention. In his plea agreement, Jones admitted that he failed to file personal income returns for four years and quarterly business payroll tax returns for six. Jones has also agreed to pay restitution of more than $108,000.

Court records show that the Democrat from Severn received gross income of $244,365 in 2005 and failed to file a tax return before the April 17, 2006, deadline.
