WESTMINSTER — The family of a 9-year-old Pennsylvania boy who died after a tree fell on him at a nature camp in Maryland is suing the county that runs the camp.
The family of Noah Asid of Hanover, Pa., filed the wrongful death suit in Carroll County Circuit Court on Wednesday.
Asid died in December 2009 at a Baltimore hospital two days after the tree fell on him. He was among dozens of fourth- and fifth-graders participating in a three-day nature camp at the county-run Hashawha Environmental Center.
The suit claims the county had a duty to provide a safe environment and was negligent by not appreciating the danger posed by the dead tree and the high winds on the day it fell. It claims $12 million in damages.
