WASHINGTON — The FBI has launched a website to draw attention to a series of unsolved rapes and a murder in the Washington area that investigators believe are related.
Local and federal authorities unveiled a public outreach campaign Thursday in hopes of catching a man suspected in nine attacks on women in the 1990s.
Seven of the attacks are linked through DNA, but investigators say all nine follow the same pattern.
The attacks include eight rapes or attempted sexual assaults in Montgomery County and the Aug. 1, 1998 killing of Christine Mirzayan, a 28-year-old scientist, in Washington’s Georgetown neighborhood.
Authorities said Thursday they are not positive the man is alive, but are hoping that a website, digital billboards, podcasts and a $25,000 reward can help jog someone’s memory.
