WASHINGTON — Police are searching for two suspects after students from Georgetown University and the University of Maryland were assaulted over the weekend, and police are stepping up patrols.
At Georgetown, police say a student was beaten and sexually assaulted early Sunday morning while walking on 36th Street near the campus. University officials are urging Georgetown students not to walk alone late at night.
At the University of Maryland, campus police say a female student woke up to find a man touching her leg inside her dorm room. Police say the student’s roommate walked in and confronted the suspect who then ran off. Witnesses told police two men were walking the hall, jiggling door handles of rooms to find an unlocked door.
Police don’t believe the incidents are connected.
