Education: I took an “alternate route” of education … at 18, instead of going off to college as was planned, I went to Alaska (Sitka/Juneau) and wound up staying for almost 10 years. While there, I built a log cabin 4 miles from the nearest road and walked or kayaked in to town every day for work, worked as a cook at a silver-mining camp, had my own hand troller and went commercial salmon fishing for three years, worked for the state as a licensing examiner for the marine pilots and hunting/fishing guides boards, and many other cool things. I never did return to school, but learned many life lessons along the way. I came back East when my sister started having babies and have now been in the Architectural/Engineering marketing business for more than 20 years.
