Senate president says Tiger Woods is back

Maryland Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller is apparently a golf — and Tiger Woods — fan.

After the Senate read a proclamation declaring Tuesday Maryland Golf Day, Miller spoke proudly of the state hosting the 2011 U.S. Open at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda.

Then, he turned his attention to last weekend’s Honda Classic, where Rory McIlroy held off a late charge by Woods to win and become the world’s No. 1 professional golfer.

But Miller’s most effusive praise wasn’t for McIlroy — it was for Woods, who shot a 62 and finished two strokes behind the Northern Irishman.

“Anybody see Tiger on the 18th hole?” asked Miller, D-Calvert and Prince George’s. “Par five, and he eagles it. He’s back folks, he’s back.”

Maybe Miller was trying to lighten the mood, after the Senate Budget and Taxation Committee sat through a presentation outlining the cuts in a so-called “Doomsday Budget” proposal.

Either way, I’m sure Woods appreciates the vote of confidence.
