The Senate Budget and Taxation Committee will vote Thursday afternoon on a budget bill to send to the chamber floor.
Senate subcommittees are slated to report to the committee at 1 p.m. Thursday, followed by a full committee vote that would send a budget proposal back to the State House.
Then, the real fun starts.
The debate should begin on the Senate floor at the start of next week. The state must close a projected $1.1 billion budget deficit.
On Tuesday, senators heard an analysis of a so-called “Doomsday Budget” proposal, which would close the gap using nearly $800 million in cuts and no new taxes or tax increases.
Sen. Nathaniel J. McFadden, D-Baltimore City, vice chairman of the Budget and Taxation Committee, said the “Doomsday” plan could move to the Senate floor should some tax increases not be approved by the committee.
