Frederick Co. Republican Young eyes run for governor in 2014

FREDERICK — The president of the Frederick County Board of Commissioners says he will explore a run for governor in 2014.

Blaine Young, a Republican, said Thursday that he is ready to see if statewide office is the next step for him. Young says he has nothing in his campaign coffers and will not begin seeking donations until this summer.

As governor, Young says he would promise to veto all tax or fee increases.

David Ferguson, executive director of the Maryland Republican Party, says the party will remain neutral early on and throughout the primary process.

Gov. Martin O’Malley, a Democrat, is serving his second term and cannot seek re-election.

Democrats outnumber Republicans in the state by a 2-to-1 margin.
