Lotte Plaza coming to One Mile West Shopping Center in Catonsville

The Asian and international market Lotte Plaza will soon help launch a multi-million dollar renovation of a former Toys R Us store in the One Mile West Shopping Center in Catonsville.

The result will be a new 46,000-square-foot Lotte Plaza store in the 125,000-square-foot retail development at 6600 Baltimore National Pike, expected to open this summer. The center is owned by the Owings Mills-based Fedder Co. Alvin Lee, a director at Lotte Plaza, said the new store will provide 50-75 jobs.

Founded in 1989, Lotte Plaza and its affiliates operate 13 markets in seven states. The One Mile West Shopping Center location will be the first in Baltimore County, and the seventh store in the mid-Atlantic region.

Fortune 500 company DaVita Dialysis Center has leased 10,000 square feet of office space at Randallstown Plaza from Trout Daniel & Associates.

DaVita is relocating its Randallstown center to the new site, at 3637 Offut Rd., to improve accessibility for patients. The new space will be a hybrid between medical and retail space.

Other tenants in Randallstown Plaza include Radio Shack, Bank of America, Subway and Family Dollar. The anchor at the site is the Liberty Center, a Baltimore County Work Force Development Center and a branch of the Community College of Baltimore County.

Some of Baltimore’s amateur baseball diamonds will get a facelift this year, thanks to a fundraising campaign called Growing the Game.

Thursday, Baltimore Orioles owner Peter G. Angelos matched what has already been raised and donated — $83,000 — so the effort now has $166,000 to play ball.

Representatives from Gaithersburg-based Brickman’s Sports Turf, a sports field construction and maintenance firm, and members of the Orioles’ ground crew will gather at 9 a.m. on Saturday at Forest Park, where there are three baseball fields, and Joseph Lee Park, where there are two softball fields, to begin the renovations.

Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz has nominated real estate executive Roland O. Campbell Jr., to the Baltimore County Revenue Authority, a quasi-public agency that oversees the county’s municipal golf courses, parking facilities and the Reisterstown Sportsplex and ice rink.

Campbell is president and CEO of ROC Inc., a local real estate advisory firm, a former chair of the Baltimore County Chamber of Commerce and past president of the Pikesville Chamber of Commerce. He has served on the Governor’s Commission on Small Business, the Bon Secours Foundation, the Home Builders Association of Maryland, and the Baltimore County Workforce Development Council.

Campbell would succeed Joseph Blair, whose term expired last June.

Cindy Bledsoe resigned this week as the executive director and lone employee of the nonprofit Greater Towson Committee after a seven-year run.

Bledsoe, a horse enthusiast whose personal version of Christmas is Derby Day, leaves on June 30 to become executive producer of a new entertainment subsidiary of Thomas Herding Technique, founded by Kerry M. Thomas, an expert in equine athletic psychology.

“My heart will always be in Towson,” Bledsoe said in a statement. “It has been a fulfilling pleasure to serve alongside such dedicated leaders in business, community and government. I remain a champion of this place and its people.”

Marriott Corp. COO David Marriott will join Towson University president Maravene Loeschke on April 4 to celebrate the reopening of the Towson University Marriott Conference Hotel.

The facility at 10 W. Burke Ave. has recently undergone a massive renovation. The event will feature some of Towson University’s finest actors, musicians and dancers.

Vehicles For Change is expanding in Halethorpe.

The nonprofit that refurbishes and donates cars for awards to low-income families, said this week it plans to purchase a 2.4-acre property at 4111 Washington Blvd. for $1.35 million. The space will more than double VFC’s current location at 5237 Washington Blvd.

The 13-year-old organization hopes to expand its program at the new site and could add an automotive training center with the Community College of Baltimore County and Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake as possible partners. The group will add a six-bay garage there to repair donated vehicles on site.

“Our new home will enable us to make more dreams come true for families that can’t get jobs because transportation is a barrier,” said Marty Schwartz, president of VFC, which serves Maryland, Virginia and Washington.

The relocation is expected to take place in May.

TIDBITS: There won’t be a microbrewery at the old Haussner’s restaurant in Highlandtown after all. The Sun reported that the plans of brewer Stephen Demczuk to open a beer hall there have fallen through because the site was too expensive to renovate. The East Baltimore landmark closed in 1999… Craftsmen Developers of Glen Burnie recently earned its second 4-star Green Land Development Certification from the National Association of Home Builders Research Center, under the National Green Building Standard. The company was awarded the certification for Phase 1 of Coldwater Reserve, a 50-home community in Severn …  Broad Street Realty recently helped to ink a $19.3 million sale of The Commons on Potomac Square in Cascades in Potomac Falls, Va., Broad Street represented Comstock Homebuilding Corp. in the sale that netted a per-unit price of $187,864.  The 103-unit, 112,000-square-foot apartment building was sold to CAPREIT … The 71,000-square-foot headquarters of St. John Properties Inc. was recently given a LEED Gold certificate by the U.S. Green Building Council. The office, at 2560 Lord Baltimore Drive in the Windsor Corporate Park, joins 13 other St. John properties in that environmental efficiency category.
