Prince George’s police officer charged with theft

UPPER MARLBORO — A Prince George’s County police officer is accused of stealing from the department’s property warehouse.

Officials say Martin Abundez, who’s been with the department for six years, faces multiple counts of theft and misconduct in office. The state’s attorney’s office says Abundez is accused of stealing video equipment.

Police say the theft occurred in January, and prosecutors formally charged Abundez in March after an investigation.

Police Chief Mark Magaw calls the alleged thefts a “serious breach of the public trust.”

Abundez declined to comment on the allegations Tuesday and said he wanted to first speak with his union representatives.
