March casino revenue in Maryland up 24.4% from 2011

March revenues at Maryland’s casinos jumped 24 percent from the corresponding time last year, according to numbers released Thursday by the Maryland Lottery.

Hollywood Casino Perryville and the Casino at Ocean Downs in Berlin combined to generate about $16.3 million in March, compared to about $13.1 million in March 2011. Hollywood Casino accounted for $12.3 million of the total, and Ocean Downs brought in $4.1 million.

Casino revenues have grown every month since November after some ups and down in 2011. From February to March, revenue increased by $1.2 million, or 8 percent.

The casinos have generated about $124.6 million this fiscal year, which began July 1. A little less than half of that total, $60.4 million has gone to the Education Trust Fund, which uses the money for K-12 and higher education construction funding.
