Seven named to Columbia Foundation’s Board of Trustees

Seven people have been elected to the Columbia Foundation’s Board of Trustees.

Edward J. Berman, principal with EJ Berman & Associates LLC, is a Certified Public Accountant with a Master of Business Administration in finance and management. He has more than 20 years of managerial, operational, risk and control, audit and business experience.

Tom Coale, an associate with the law firm of Goodell, DeVries, Leech & Dann LLP, primarily practices health care litigation and security clearance due process appeals. He graduated from Georgetown University Law Center and Lycoming College.

Nuala Duffy, a former teacher at Swansfield Elementary School, continues to follow educational programs in the county and research in the field of education. She earned her Master of Arts in education and Bachelor of Arts in sociology at McDaniel College.

Neil Gordon retired after 43 years in manufacturing and wholesale in the home furnishings industry. He is the past president of the Maryland/D.C. Home Furnishings Representatives Association. One of Columbia’s pioneers, Gordon moved to the city from Baltimore in 1968.

Marcia L. Leonard, principal at Hammond High School, also served as principal at Atholton High School and assistant principal and teacher at Wilde Lake High School. She completed doctorate coursework at University of Maryland, College Park and earned her Master of Arts in education at Wake Forest University and Bachelor of Arts at Haverford College.

Joseph V. Murray Sr. is director of community relations at CareOne Debt Relief Services, an Ascend One company, and executive director of the Ascend One EDGE Funds. He serves on the boards of Family and Children’s Services of Central Maryland, Neighbor Ride, Friends of Howard County Library and Volunteer Center Serving Howard County.

Lynne C. Schaefer is vice president for administration and finance and chief business officer at University of Maryland Baltimore County, where she oversees financial management, reporting and control. She holds a Master of Business Administration in finance from Wayne State University and Bachelor of Arts from Michigan State University.
