JHU, Jhpiego to unveil health creations

Jhpiego, an international nonprofit health organization affiliated with the Johns Hopkins University, and biomedical engineering students from the university, said they will unveil on Monday two very affordable innovations they developed to help health workers prevent maternal and newborn deaths in third-world communities.

BabyBeats is a fetal heart rate monitor designed to help prevent an estimated 2 million stillbirths and newborn deaths that occur yearly in the developing world.

FeverPoint is a screening test that uses a single cotton thread and a drop of blood to pinpoint the underlying cause of fevers related to malaria, bacterial pneumonia and other infections that kill millions of children annually.
