New Baltimore archbishop to be installed at Mass

Roman Catholics in Maryland are welcoming a new leader.

Rev. William Lori will be installed as the 16th archbishop of Baltimore, the nation’s first diocese, at a Mass at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen on Wednesday afternoon.

Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano, Pope Benedict XVI’s representative to the United States, will be among the more than 300 priests, bishops and cardinals expected to attend the Mass.

Lori comes from the Diocese of Bridgeport, Conn. and succeeds Cardinal Edwin O’Brien, who is now grand master of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. The Kentucky native will now lead 500,000 Catholics in central and Western Maryland.
