Board approves tuition hikes for Maryland colleges

COLLEGE PARK — The Board of Regents for Maryland’s university system has approved a 3 percent tuition increase for most in-state students.

The board approved the tuition hike on Wednesday. This is the third year in a row that tuition has gone up.

For students at the University of Maryland, College Park, tuition and fees will rise from $8,655 this year to $8,908 in 2013. Out-of-state tuition will rise by as much as 5 percent at College Park and at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

Students at Salisbury University will see an even larger tuition increase. Salisbury will raise its in-state tuition 6 percent for a second straight year to bring its revenue in line with competitors.

Salaries for university employees remain largely frozen, except for a 2 percent cost-of-living increase.
