Garrett County trail gets $250,000 grant

WASHINGTON — A $250,000 grant will help design and build a new hiking trail in Garrett County.

Sens. Barbara Mikulski and Ben Cardin announced the grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission on Thursday. The 10-mile Meadow Mountain Trail will begin near Grantsville and the Casselman River Bridge and end near Route 495 at the University of Maryland’s 4-H Center. The trail will be part of the county’s 150-mile long Eastern Continental Divide Loop Trail.

Cardin says the Meadow Mountain Trail will aid the region’s tourism economy. Mikulski says the grant is a smart investment that will help grow the county’s economy by drawing visitors to the region.
