Back to the beach for the MSBA’s Annual Meeting

As I’ve written in early June the last two years, it’s once again time for the MSBA Annual Meeting in Ocean City. While many of the events remain the same (Welcome Reception, President’s Reception, New Judges Meet-and-Greet), this unofficial start of summer always provides new and entertaining programming for all attendees.

Topics that will be presented this year range from the “Foundations of Construction Law for Bench and Bar” to ensuring that you are not the subject of an attorney grievance complaint. Did you miss some of the Supreme Court’s rulings during the current session? Come listen to the Court of Special Appeals Judge Robert A. Zarnoch and appellate lawyer Andrew Baida discuss the 2012 term.

Do you have an immigration law-related question? Get it answered at the Immigration Law Section’s program, “Nuts and Bolts and Slippery Slopes: Fundamentals of Family-Based Immigration and Practice Tips for Recent Changes in the Law.”  Want to be a judge? Learn the process firsthand from representatives of various Judicial Nominating Commissions and the co-chairs of the MSBA Judicial Appointments Commission.

Of course, the MSBA Annual Meeting is not all work. There is time to meet and network with jurists and practitioners throughout Maryland. You can run the Young Lawyers 5k and 10k Sun Run, grab a cold, frosty beverage at Seacrets, (courtesy of the Worcester County Bar Association) or partake in the golf or tennis tournaments for bragging rights that will last a full year.

Finally, don’t forget the annual young lawyers happy hour, sponsored by the Young Lawyers Section and The Daily Record, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Liquid Assets. You’ll have the chance to meet some of us Generation J.D.  bloggers and editors.

So, for those of you that can make it, I will see you at the beach.
