National Federation of the Blind calls for boycott of Goodwill

The Baltimore-based National Federation of the Blind on Thursday called for a boycott of Goodwill Industries International Inc., charging the nonprofit manufacturer and retailer pays subminimum wages to many of its workers with disabilities.

According to the NFB, Goodwill Industries’ employees have been paid as little as $1.44 an hour. A representative of Rockville-based Goodwill Industries said it is working on a response to the NFB and had no immediate comment.

The NFB said it supports a bill in Congress that would repeal a section of federal labor law allowing certain workers with disabilities to be paid less than the federal minimum wage.
