Arundel Mills exit reopens on 295

All roads again lead to the Arundel Mills commercial district.

The State Highway Administration announced Monday that the Arundel Mills Boulevard exit off southbound Route 295 is open, a change that casino-goers, residents and local business owners have to be applauding this afternoon.

Last week’s opening of the Maryland Live! casino next to the Arundel Mills mall had turned a usually manageable stretch of road in Hanover into a congestion nightmare. Tens of thousands have flocked to the state’s newest — and largest — casino, turning 295 northbound and Route 100 into parking lots at times.

The exit is now a “diverging diamond” interchange, in which opposing lanes cross over one another in a large, traffic light-controlled intersection. The interchange was previously a traffic circle.

In a statement, Joe Weinberg, The Cordish Cos.‘ managing partner and president of gaming, said the interchange should help ease congestion.

“The Cordish Cos. and SHA are confident the DDI will function safely and efficiently, allowing motorists easier access to the Arundel Mills shopping district and our exciting new Maryland Live! casino,” Weinberg said.
