Public works officials in Baltimore say there may be brief interruptions in water service when a 54-inch main in the southwestern part of the city is repaired.
An inspection revealed a potential failure on the main that runs from the Ashburton Water Filtration Plant to Howard and Anne Arundel counties. The main is being monitored and valves have been partially closed to reduce stress.
The system will be tested for 48 hours starting on Tuesday. If the test shows customers will receive adequate water supply while repairs are under way, excavation work will begin. Service interruptions lasting an hour could occur.
Officials are asking all residents in Baltimore and Baltimore, Howard and Anne Arundel counties immediately begin conserving water.
