The San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that University of Maryland Athletic Director Kevin Anderson is leaving Maryland’s flagship university to take the same position at Stanford University.

The news comes two years after Anderson took over from Debbie Yow, who went to lead North Carolina State’s athletic program. Anderson had a five-year contract with Maryland. His tenure has been marred with controversy, including the firing of former football coach Ralph Friedgen and the elimination of seven varsity athletic teams.
