Thurmont officials approve sale of land to Md.

THURMONT — Thurmont town officials have approved the sale of about 400 acres of land to the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.

The Frederick News-Post reports that the sale was approved in a 3-2 vote Tuesday night.

Mayor Martin Burns, who opposed the sale, says he questions whether the land could be worth more than the $1.4 million offered by the natural resources department. Burns requested an amendment that would allow him to ask appraisers about the value of the land, which officials also approved.

State officials say the land would be added to Cunningham Falls State Park. About 80 acres of the parcel contains Thurmont’s reservoir and would be kept by the town.
