ANNAPOLIS — Maryland regulators are scheduled to disclose their decision on Pepco’s request for a 4 percent rate increase.

The Public Service Commission has a Friday deadline to announce its decision.

Pepco, which serves Washington and suburban Maryland, has come under heavy criticism for prolonged delays in restoring power after severe storms, most recently after a strong storm hit Maryland late last month.

On Thursday, Maryland Rep. Chris Van Hollen announced he believes the rate increase request should be denied.

Earlier this month, two state senators announced support for fining Pepco more than $100 million. Sen. Brian Frosh, D-Montgomery, and Sen. James Rosapepe say the money could be used to create a fund to hire more people to restore power lines after severe storms.
