Jo-Ellen Unger has joined Har Sinai Congregation as director of congregational learning. Unger will lead the congregation’s religious school and coordinate life-long learning activities, including adult education, family education, informal education, youth group and Reform high school.
Unger has experience administering the day-to-day operations of religious schools from preschool through 12th grade as well as youth activities. She has developed and coordinated adult education programs and taught both adult education and parenting classes.
Prior to joining Har Sinai Congregation, Unger was director of education and youth at Congregation Ahavath Chesed in Jacksonville, Fla. Previously, she was director of education and youth at Temple Beth El in Boca Raton, Fla. She also worked for the Union for Reform Judaism Southeast Council as education director and assistant director of Camp Coleman, regional director of junior and senior high school programs, and regional adviser of the North American Federation of Temple Youth.
Unger’s professional affiliations include the National Association of Temple Educators, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, Jacksonville Jewish Education Council and the URJ District Youth Camps Education Committee. In addition, she was recognized by NFTY/URJ for outstanding youth engagement and helped establish KoleinJax, a network for parents of Jewish children with special needs.
