CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The sentencing of a former University of Virginia lacrosse player convicted of killing his ex-girlfriend will be held as scheduled later this month.
Media outlets say a Charlottesville Circuit Court judge on Monday denied George Huguely’s request to delay his Aug. 30 sentencing until after Oct. 1.
The Chevy Chase man was convicted in February of second-degree murder in the 2010 death of Yeardley Love of suburban Baltimore. Love was a member of the women’s lacrosse team.
An Aug. 22 hearing is set on another defense motion seeking a new trial. Huguely’s attorneys claim prosecutors erred by not telling them that Love’s mother was planning to sue Huguely.
