BROWNSVILLE — The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is draining a fishing pond in the Washington County community of Brownsville to prevent a dam failure.

The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown reports that the earthen dam had eroded and was in danger of collapsing.

Inland fisheries director Don Cosden says most of the water has been removed from the nearly 1-acre pond. He says the fish have been relocated.

Cosden says there is no money currently available for repairs. He says fixing the dam could cost $100,000 to $150,000.
