Prince George’s Co. to install more cameras

PALMER PARK — Prince George’s County police are installing new surveillance cameras to deter the vandalism of speed cameras in the county.

Authorities say the new cameras will watch over the speed cameras. Police Maj. Robert V. Liberati says one such camera is already up and he plans to have about a dozen more installed before the end of the year.

Since April, six speed cameras have been damaged in the county. On April 6, someone used a gun to shoot a camera in Upper Marlboro. Two weeks later, a speed camera was flipped over on South Truman Drive, near Prince George’s County College.

Under Maryland law, speed cameras can only be used to capture images of speeding.
