Md. evacuating about 150 from Crisfield

CRISFIELD — Maryland officials say they’re working to evacuate about 150 people from a development in Crisfield on the Eastern Shore.

Ed McDonough, a spokesman for the Maryland Emergency Management Agency, said police got the call shortly before 3 p.m. at the Somers Cove development in Somerset County.

McDonough says residents became concerned by rising water and called for assistance. He says it doesn’t appear anyone is in imminent danger.

Gov. Martin O’Malley says a tidal surge raised the water level in Crisfield to about 3 feet on the ground floor of the community. The governor says people are being taken to a shelter, because their ground floors have filled up with a lot of water.

McDonough says two boats are being used to get them to higher ground.
