ROCKVILLE — Maryland’s newest congressman sees hope for a bipartisan consensus on reducing the federal deficit.
Democrat John Delaney also said Wednesday he’d like to help forge a public-private partnership to improve America’s roads and bridges.
The Potomac banking executive defeated 10-term Republican Rep. Roscoe Bartlett in the 6th Congressional District Tuesday by a whopping 21 percentage points.
Delaney’s campaign themes of job creation and cooperation helped him carry three of the district’s five counties, including conservative Washington County.
Delaney says the politicians he admires include Abraham Lincoln for his pragmatism. And he says he respects Bill Clinton’s ability to find the balance between a strong economy and social programs ensuring fair treatment of all citizens.
