Micros Systems shuffles top leadership

Micros Systems Inc., of Columbia, a provider of computer systems to the hospitality and retail industries, announced that Peter Altabef, the former president of Dell Services, has been elected to succeed A.L. “Tom” Giannopoulos as its president and CEO, effective Jan. 2, 2013.

Giannopoulos, who has served as Micros’ CEO since 1993, will continue as executive chairman of the company until his retirement on June 30, 2014. After Giannopoulos retires, the company’s board of directors intends to appoint a non-executive independent chairperson.

The board has also expanded from six to seven directors, and the 53-year-old Altabef will be appointed a director, effective Jan. 2, 2013.
