DeChirico joins Grassroots

Nicole DeChiricoNicole DeChirico has joined Columbia-based Grassroots as director of Crisis Intervention Services. She is responsible for the agency’s 24-hour crisis hotlines, walk-in counseling program, outreach crisis services in the North Laurel-Savage Multiservice Center and the Mobile Crisis Team. Grassroots’ crisis intervention program also focuses on suicide prevention and intervention and is a participating partner in the National Suicide Prevention Hotline.

Last year, Grassroots counselors met face-to-face with 1,557 people and answered 30,112 crisis calls from men, women and young people including some who were considering suicide. The Mobile Crisis Team went on 442 calls, helping the police intervene in situations that could lead to tragedy.

DeChirico is also an adjunct faculty member of the Community College of Baltimore County, where she has taught family dynamics in the School of Health Professions and Behavioral Emergencies for Paramedics. Before joining Grassroots, she was clinical supervisor for the Supported Housing Program at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and a Child and Adolescent Outpatient Therapist.

A resident of Baltimore, DeChirico has a masters of social work from the University of Maryland, School of Social Work and a bachelor’s degree from Old Dominion University.
