Brobst, Baltimore County judge and prosecutor, dies at 59

Baltimore County Circuit Court Judge S. Ann Brobst, 59, a longtime county prosecutor before being elevated to the bench, died Monday night at Gilchrest Hospice of pancreatic cancer.

Judge Brobst worked as a county prosecutor for 30 years, handling some of jurisdiction’s biggest murder cases. From 1986 to 2009, Judge Brobst served as circuit court division chief in the state’s attorney’s office, meaning she oversaw all prosecutors in courthouse as well as had direct supervision of all homicide cases.

Judge Brobst was appointed to the bench by Gov. Martin O’Malley in December 2009 and was elected to a full, 15-year term the following year.

A native of Norristown, Pa., Judge Brobst graduated from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1978.
