Salemme to join American Red Cross as regional CEO

Scott R. SalemmeScott R. Salemme will become CEO of the American Red Cross of the Chesapeake Region effective Jan. 28.

Salemme brings 24 years of Red Cross experience to his new post. Since 2002, Mr. Salemme has served as the regional CEO of the American Red Cross of the Columbia Region located in Columbia, S.C. In this role, he was responsible for ensuring comprehensive disaster planning, preparedness and response for the Region’s six Red Cross Chapters, serving 28 counties in South Carolina.

Additionally, Salemme’s duties included the provision of services to the Armed Forces and lifesaving training in the form of first aid/CPR, water safety and youth programming. Salemme led a paid and volunteer staff of over 1,000 individuals.

Salemme started his American Red Cross career as the assistant executive director of the Jamestown New York Chapter. After three years in that role, he became the executive director of the Erie, Pa., chapter and then the executive director of the South Bend, Ind., chapter before moving on to South Carolina.

Salemme has been recognized by the Red Cross for his effective leadership and has received both the National Tiffany Award for Employee Excellence in Management and the Spirit of Excellence Award for Employee Excellence in Management. He has a bachelor’s degree from State University of New York at Fredonia.

Salemme and his wife, Kathie, have two sons, Alex and Nicholas.
