Tribune Co., owner of The Baltimore Sun, will be auctioning off its newspaper properties, CNBC reported.
Bankers at JPMorgan Chase and Evercore Partners will direct the sale of the newspapers, which also include the Los Angeles Times and Chicago Tribune, CNBC said. The Tribune Co., which recently emerged from a four-year bankruptcy, acknowledged only that JPMorgan and Evercore would help evaluate whether interest in the papers was credible.
Among those mentioned as possible buyers of the newspapers are News Corp.’s Rupert Murdoch and Freedom Communications, owner of the Orange County (Calif.) Register.
Possible local buyers of The Sun include David Cordish of Cordish Cos. and a group that includes the Abell Foundation.
