Md. hosts stormwater runoff meeting for officials

ANNAPOLIS — Top Maryland officials led by Gov. Martin O’Malley hosted county and local officials at a meeting in Annapolis dedicated to stormwater runoff, a key Chesapeake Bay pollutant with a price tag for cuts that has many worried.

The governor opened the one-day meeting by admitting it is a big challenge, but urged the officials to be creative. He also noted progress that has been made in other areas, such as blue crab restoration, when leaders followed the science and made a commitment.

The governor and the secretaries of the Department of the Environment and Natural Resources also reminded the officials of grants and other financial aid that is available.
