Rural Malaysians get cellular service

Broadband satellite services provider Hughes Network Systems Inc., of Germantown, said it has signed a contract with Maju Nusa Sdn Bhd (Majunusa), a fast-growing satellite service provider in Malaysia, to supply an HX System 4.0 NOC (Network Operations Center) and 130 HX broadband satellite terminals, to deliver cellular backhaul services in rural areas without access to cost-effective terrestrial communications.

“For people who live in these rural areas, this will be the first time that they will have cellular services in their communities,” said Ramesh Ramaswamy, vice president of sales and marketing, International Division at Hughes.
