Southwest Air workers to picket at BWI

The union representing Southwest Airlines’ ground workers said its members will conduct informational picketing and leafleting Thursday at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport and 15 other airports in 12 states.

The union said contract negotiations have stalled, and the airline’s proposals for a new contract would “compromise the company’s tradition of outstanding customer service.”

In an emailed response, Southwest — the largest passenger carrier at BWI — said it has “always supported, and will continue to support, our Employees’ right to express themselves.” Southwest said it will “continue to actively participate in negotiations” to bring about labor agreements “that are rewarding, flexible and secure. …”
