Miller OK with medical marijuana and House gun bill amendments

Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller Jr. hopes the Senate will approve the study of marijuana for medical purposes, legislation that has already passed the House of Delegates.

As it turns out, the Democrat who represents parts of Calvert and Prince George’s counties has something that is ailing him.

“I’ve got a fractured nerve in my tooth right now, and I wouldn’t mind a toke myself,” Miller said.

The Senate is expected to debate the bill Thursday afternoon, in addition to Gov. Martin O’Malley’s gun control legislation, as amended and passed by the House on Wednesday afternoon.

Miller hopes to avoid a conference committee of senators and delegates. He’d rather the Judicial Proceedings Committee agree to the changes so the Senate can hold a final vote on the bill Thursday evening.

“I would recommend that they do so,” Miller said. “I would like to see the committee concur with the amendments.”
