FROSTBURG — A petition for a proposed wind power farm near Frostburg has drawn 127 signatures in support of the project.
Maryland Public Service Commission filings also show the commission has received nine letters in support and seven against the proposal, as well as 89 postcards in favor.
Fourmile Wind Energy LLC is seeking to build the project on Fourmile Ridge and the western slope of Big Savage Mountain. The company has said it hopes to begin operating by year end. However, three-quarters of the site is in areas designated by the state as sensitive because of rare, threatened and endangered species.
The Cumberland Times-News reports that a company official said at a March hearing that studies have been completed and the project has been designed to avoid affecting sensitive areas.
