Md. adds 4,700 jobs; unemployment steady

Maryland’s unemployment rate remained steady at 6.6. percent after 4,700 jobs were added in March, according to data released on Friday by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics also revised February’s initial 10,500 job gain downward, to 9,800 for the month.

As has been the case recently, the private sector accounted for the growth, adding 5,100 jobs, led by 3,500 new positions in the professional and business services industry, many of which related to landscaping and tree services, according to the state Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation.

The national unemployment rate is 7.7 percent.
