Somerset solar-energy system completed

The University of Maryland Medical System celebrated the completion of a 3.66-megawatt, grid-connected, solar generation project in Somerset County on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

UMMS is the prime recipient of the electricity generated by the ground-mounted installation. The solar project was initially developed by Bithenergy, a Baltimore-based energy consulting firm, along with Chesapeake Renewable Energy LLC, of Baltimore, an installer of solar energy systems, and Westchester, N.Y.-based Smart Energy Capital LLC.

Constellation, of Baltimore, financed, owns and operates the solar power system, which is comprised of approximately 15,540 photovoltaic panels on approximately 25 acres.
