New supermarket groundbreaking slated for Howard Park

A bevy of city and state officials and Northwest Baltimore community leaders is expected to be on hand Tuesday when Klein’s Family Markets breaks ground for a major new supermarket in the Howard Park neighborhood.

The 68,000-square-foot, full-service ShopRite supermarket at 4601 Liberty Heights Ave. will have produce, a meat department, a bakery and a pharmacy, along with about 280 parking spaces.

The long-awaited store is expected to create more than 200 jobs and cost about $20 million.

The community of Howard Park has been without a viable grocery store option for more than a decade, after the Super Pride market closed.
