The Maryland Stem Cell Research Commission announced that 31 new proposals have been selected for grants through the Maryland Stem Cell Research Fund for FY 2013.
The fund has a budget of $10.4 million in the current fiscal year.
The projects, selected from 171 applications, include pre-clinical research and a clinical trial, all aimed at advancing the field of regenerative medicine.
Priority was given to research targeting cancer, sickle cell anemia, Lou Gehrig’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, heart disease, muscular dystrophy, diabetes, lupus, epilepsy, spinal cord injuries, end stage lung disease and other debilitating medical conditions.
