ANNAPOLIS — A former U.S. Naval Academy instructor has been sentenced for indecent acts, fraternization and conduct unbecoming an officer.
The academy says Maj. Mark Thompson was sentenced Monday to 60 days confinement beginning immediately at a military jail in Chesapeake, Va. He also was fined $2,500 a month for two years. Thompson also will receive a reprimand that will be part of his record.
A jury acquitted Thompson of aggravated sexual assault last week, but found him guilty on the lesser charges.
The academy says Thompson’s future status will be evaluated by the Marine Corps after the academy’s superintendent reviews the trial record.
The charges relate to a 2011 incident when two female midshipmen went to Thompson’s apartment after drinking alcohol. One of them reported Thompson had assaulted her.
