The National Institutes of Health, of Bethesda, has been ranked No. 1 of the nation’s 50 best employers for workers 50 years old and older by the AARP, for its efforts to retain, retrain and engage older workers.
According to AARP, 47 percent of NIH employees are over the age of 50, and the average tenure of employees that are age 50-plus is about 18½ years.
NIH also has a website listing employment opportunities exclusively for retired federal workers, the Maryland News Connection reported.
Winners of the 2013 AARP Best Employers for Workers Over 50 award, cosponsored by the Society for Human Resource Management, were announced on Monday at the SHRM annual conference in Chicago.
