BEL AIR — An administrative mistake has postponed a plea hearing for a college student who told authorities he killed a man and ate his heart and parts of his brain.

Harford County Assistant State’s Attorney Christopher Smith says paperwork to have Alex Kinyua transported from the state’s maximum-security psychiatric hospital to court for Monday’s hearing “fell through the cracks.” The hearing was rescheduled for Aug. 19.

Kinyua is expected to plead guilty but not criminally responsible to first-degree murder in the 2012 death of a 37-year-old man from Ghana who was staying with Kinyua’s family in the Baltimore suburbs.

Authorities say Kinyua ranted about “human sacrifices” on Facebook before the slaying.

In a separate case, Kinyua pleaded guilty but not criminally responsible to a baseball bat attack at his Baltimore college.
